Modern inverter AC units operate as air-to-air heat pumps in winter, delivering 3–4kW of heat for every 1kW of electricity (COP of 3–4). At 7°C outside they're significantly cheaper than direct electric heaters. They're not a replacement for a central heating system in deep winter, but they're an excellent shoulder-season option (October, March/April) and a useful supplement in heatwaves and cold snaps alike.
All refrigerant work in the UK is regulated under F-Gas regulations — installation, recovery and disposal of refrigerant must be carried out by a certified engineer. Domestic systems below 5kg refrigerant don't require an annual leak check, but we recommend an annual service to maintain efficiency, clean filters, and clear the condensate drain.
